What is the Green Tourism Enterprises Program?
The Green Tourism Enterprises Program in La Union, or GTEP, recognizes tourism establishments that demonstrate strong practices in tourism management, health and safety, environmental management, and sustainability.
The program evaluates tourism enterprises across accommodation, food and beverage, tourism sites, and travel and tour services.
GTEP was first introduced in 2021 as part of La Union’s efforts to encourage safer and more responsible tourism. In January 2026, the provincial government further strengthened the initiative through Provincial Ordinance No. 515-2026, establishing GTEP as an annual provincial recognition and incentive program.
Participating establishments undergo assessments that include documentary evaluation, site validation, unannounced ocular inspections, and deliberation before the annual awarding.
At the heart of the program is the Bougainvillea Seal of Compliance, recognizing tourism establishments that demonstrate responsible practices in their operations.
